Historians estimate that on that day in 1242, King Béla IV of Hungary gave the town of Samobor a document of endowment making Samobor a free royal town. That ment that the people of Samobor were independent in judicial affairs and could freely dispose their assets. The Samobor Day celebration is very eventful having elementary school children taking part, as well as different artists, there are exhibitions and other different cultural programs. Today Samobor economic tradition, along with farmers and wine growers, makes a whole range of indigenous trades. In recent years the production of greblica, bermet, honey, cremeschnitte, salami, and other local homemade products has expanded. Because of all this, Samobor attracts new residents and visitors.
